To good neighborly relations
Concept
What does it feel like to be surrounded by people you can't quite place?
Kazuki Koga knows this feeling. Born in Tokyo, the painter has lived in Leipzig since 2019, immersed in a culture foreign to him. Koga draws on this experience to create dreamlike scenes of the Leipzig cityscape. His figures are often in company yet remain self-contained. Ephemeral moments condense into intense experiences, so familiar that one feels as if they were there.
In Japanese, there's a saying: Even the mere brushing of sleeves is a fated connection.
Every day, we brush glances, jackets, shoulders, faces. What remains of these seemingly chance encounters?
